2007/2008  SUPER STOCK RULES

 

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER:

The rules and/ or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptance requirements for such auto racing events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND / OR REGULATIONS.

These rules and regulations are intended as a guide for the conduct of auto racing at South Sound Speedway and are in no way a guarantee against injury, or death to a participant, spectator, officials, or others.

The Race Director and/or Technical Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications or rules herein, or impose any further restrictions that, in their opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS OR RULES.

Any interpretation of, or deviation from these specifications or rules is left to the discretion of the Race Director and/or Technical Officials.  Their decision will be final.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Driver of each car represents to the Promoter and all others, that his car has satisfied all applicable rules, including but not limited to safety rules, whenever such Driver participates in any warm-up, practice, or competitive laps.

The Driver of each car is also completely responsible for all actions of Crew Members, Sponsors, or all else signed under their number.

If you have any complaints, disputes, problems, or questions, only the Driver and Crew Chief, Driver and Car Owner, or Driver and one representative from your team may approach an Official, in a civil manner, to resolve the situation.  Any other Crew Members doing so will be subject to fines, probations, suspensions and the Driver disqualified.

Although the Super Stock class is designed to be an upper level class, competitors are reminded they are racing before the paying public the same as the other classes.

All participants are expected to take pride in being part of South Sound Speedway's Weekly program.  Auto racing entertainment is what we have to offer and we will not tolerate the lack of professional attitude, conduct or appearance of car, Driver, Crew or others involved.

Use of prohibited parts may result in fines, probation, suspensions, loss of that night’s points and/or disqualification to the Driver, Crew Member, and/or Owner.

Any prohibited or illegal part found would become the property of South Sound Speedway.  The South Sound Speedway officials will determine what is to become of the prohibited or illegal part once the entire race season has been completed.

All construction rules will be decided by South Sound Speedway Technical Officials.  Their decision will be final on all construction rules.  Burden of proof on any concern will be the responsibility of the Driver and Car Owner.

These rules are a guideline.  Contact the South Sound Speedway Technical Officials for final approval of your racecar.

The South Sound Speedway Super Stock division is designed to promote greater interest in stockcar competition, and to enable those with moderate means to participate in the 2007/2008 South Sound Speedway season.

These rules are set for two (2) years, the 2007 and 2008 seasons.  Rules may be subject to change in order to keep competition fair and equal or for safety reasons.

THE FOLLOWING RULES ARE THE BASIC SUPER STOCK CONSTRUCTION RULES.  TO REGISTER A CAR AND OBTAIN A SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY SUPER STOCK NUMBER, PLEASE Call SHELLY CHASE AT 360-753-1692. 

 

ELIGIBILITY:

1.   Super Stock Drivers must have a membership and be a minimum of 16 years of age.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

2.   All Super Stock Drivers and Crew Members under 18 years of age must present a notarized release to South Sound Speedway before they will be allowed in the pit area.

3.   Releases signed by individuals under 21 years of age are not valid in the State of Washington.

4.   All Super Stock Drivers, Car Owners, Crew Members, and/or others must be registered members of South Sound Speedway in good standing.

5.   All entrants must have a valid South Sound Speedway pit pass.  ENTRANTS MUST WEAR THEIR PIT BAND AT ALL TIMES.

6.   A Driver may not attempt to qualify more than one car in a single event.  A car may only make one (1) qualifying attempt at a single event.  A Driver must drive the car that he has qualified.  No Driver change and No car change after qualifying.  Racing starts at qualifying.

7.      You will be allowed to have a maximum of two (2) Drivers per car and still have the car earn the points.  Both Drivers must be registered.  These Drivers are not eligible for Rookie of the Year as a team, but are eligible as individuals.  You must sign in as Driver at the pit gate, and only you can drive the car that night.  If you fail to register as the Driver for the night, your car will not receive points or money.  

 

PROTEST, APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS:

1.   All manner in which protests and appeals must be made in the Super Stock Division, shall be governed by the 2007/2008 rulebook.

2.   Any complaints, disputes, questions, or problems must be directed, by the Driver or the registered Car Owner to the Race Director.

3.   Protests, as to an official decision, must be submitted in writing, by the Driver or registered Car Owner to the Race Director within 20 minutes of the official decision being levied.  Only a Driver or registered Car Owner in the same class may submit a protest.

4.   If a South Sound member who is a competitor believes that another competitor has or will obtain a significant unfair advantage by some action that the member believes is in violation of the rules, the member may protest such action to a South Sound Speedway Official.  The protest must be made in writing by the competitor (or his or her Car Owner) within twenty minutes after the checkered flag is displayed signifying the completion of the race.  Each separate protest shall be accompanied by a $200.00 protest fee.  However, a separate protest that involves the removal of the crankshaft from the engine shall be accompanied by a $500.00 protest fee.  In addition, a separate protest that involves the removal of a piston and/or connecting rod from the engine shall be accompanied by a $300.00 protest fee.  The Race Director shall decide whether the matter is protest able, and if so shall decide the protest as promptly as possible, and shall inform the parties to the protest of the decision A decision that the matter is not protest able is final and non-appeal able.  In deciding the protest, South Sound Speedway Officials may take whatever action deemed appropriate to further the interests of fairness and finality in competition results.  Such action includes, but is not limited to, revising the official race results, imposing penalties (disqualification's, suspension, fines, and/or loss of finishing position(s) in the event), awarding or subtracting of points, or taking no action.  Their decision is final.  If the protest is allowed, the money will be reimbursed to the person protesting.  If the protest is disallowed, the money will go to the person being protested, less $25.00 for chassis or $50.00 for the engine, for administrative fees.

 

2007/2008 RUNNING & DRIVING RULES:

1.      It is the responsibility of each race team to have in their possession, a current set of rules for the division they are participating.  If a race team member disputes the rules, and that team does not have a current set of rules in their possession or in their pits, then a $25.00 fine will be assessed for each race they do not have them.

2.      The Race Director will be the sole authority in the pits concerning the running of the races.  The Race Director and the Starter/Flagger will be in charge of on-track competition.  The Race Director will handle all protests.

3.      Officials will establish the race event procedures; starting positions, length, frequency and administration of all events and programs.  When their decision is rendered, that decision will be final and binding.  The race may be shortened due to time allotted or weather and once the race has passed the half waypoint, it will be an official race.

4.      Any complaints, disputes, questions, or problems must be directed, by the Driver or registered Car Owner, to the Race Director immediately following the event.

5.      When asked to remove a part or tear down for tech inspection and you refuse, you are subject to a fine, probation, disqualification, and/or suspension.

6.      Protests, complaints, disputes, or problems ARE NOT TO BE MADE TO THE TIMERS, RECORDERS, SCORERS, OR ANNOUNCERS.

7.      Any Driver stopping on the racing surface to argue with an Official, in regards to an Officials decision, will be automatically disqualified from the event will be subject to fines, probations, suspensions and the Driver disqualified.

8.      Any Driver or Crew Member who is injured or involved in an accident must submit to a check by the medical attendants.  Any Driver involved in a serious accident will not enter or re-enter a race until approval to do so is given by Officials and medical attendants.  Medical transportation from the racetrack to the hospital is the competitors’ responsibility.

9.      Drivers’ meeting is mandatory.  Driver must attend.  If the Driver cannot attend the Drivers’ meeting, he/she can have a substitute attend for him/her as long as he/she approves it with the Official in charge of the meeting – prior to the start of the meeting.

10.    Spotters’ meeting is mandatory.  Two-way radio communication between the Driver and a minimum of one (1) Spotter is mandatory.  It is also mandatory for the Spotter to be in the designated Spotters’ area five minutes prior to the start of the main event.  If you do not have a Spotter in the designated Spotters’ area when your main event starts, you may be black-flagged and/or held until your Spotter arrives to the designated Spotters’ area and checks in with the Official.  Please have the number of your car visibly displayed on the back of your headset.  

11.    Permission must be obtained from the Race Director or Technical Director before any practice and or safety laps, other than the designated practice time may be taken.  All cars MUST go through Tech prior to entering the racing surface each race day.  All cars will run under the approval of the Technical Inspectors. 

12.    Any unauthorized persons entering onto the racing surface during race conditions will result in a disqualification, penalty, fine, or suspension, to the person and affiliated Driver.

13.    Any competitor or Crew Member, who has a pit band, partakes of any alcoholic beverage, stimulating, depressing, or tranquilizing drugs or is otherwise under the influence will result in disqualification and a minimum fine of $500.00 along with a suspension.

14.    Any competitor or Crew Member who participated in a fight in the pits, or on the race track, or on the premises, will result in a minimum of $500.00 fine, probation, suspension, and/or loss of points and positions in the event.  STAY IN YOUR OWN PITS!  ANY DRIVER OR CREWMEMBER THAT GOES INTO SOMEONE ELSE’S PITS, YELLING OR WITH ANY KIND OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!  YOUR CAR WILL BE LOADED AND YOU WILL NEED TO LEAVE THE RACE TRACK PREMISES.

15.    Any competing car, whose speed has been reduced to the point where it could cause a safety problem, may be removed from the racing surface at the option of the Officials.

16.    QUALIFYING:  All Drivers will draw numbers when they go through tech prior to entering the racing surface to determine the qualifying order.  All cars will qualify to determine starting positions in main events with the exception of championship race, the championship race will be started on the current point standings.  All cars will qualify on championship night to determine starting positions for trophy dash and points.  Points will be awarded for qualifying and main events.  In the event that qualifications are not completed due to weather or other adverse conditions, cars will line up for all races from the previous weeks point standings.

17.    If there is a tie in qualifying times, the first car out to qualify with the tied time will receive the higher qualifying position.  The second, third, etc cars out that tie will follow the higher qualifier in the order they went out.  After qualifying, the top 18 cars will be locked in.  The top two (2) cars from the B-Main will transfer to the A-Main.  The Promoter has the option to add an additional car as a Promoters choice.

18.    Time trails, may consist of a warm-up lap or laps, and one (1) or two (2) consecutive timed laps.  If you pit after one (1) timed lap, you will not be permitted to re-time.  If you do not time in with your class, you will receive one (1) qualifying lap.  If you are given two (2) laps by the Flagman, in all fairness, your second lap will be disallowed.  If you are unable to qualify, you will be required to start at the back of the first main event.

19.    Trophy Dash:  If you qualify for the Trophy Dash – you MUST participate.  If you choose not to participate in the Trophy Dash, you will loose all qualifying points for that night and start in the back of your main event.  EXCEPTION:  If you have a problem, you must approve it with BOTH the Race Director and the Technical Director in order to be excused.

20.    Rookie of the Year:  If you are competing for Rookie of The Year, and you run more than five (5) races in your division and/or an upper division, in any year, you are not eligible to compete for Rookie of The Year in the future.  Example: You ran in the Super Stock series in 2007 and now you are going to compete in the Limited Late Model series in 2008.

21.    Any car continuously unable to start under its own power may be liable for a penalty or disqualification from the event or from the complete program.

22.    Any Driver or Crew that does not take their car to the line-up grid, when requested to by the Officials, may be required to start at the back of the line-up for that event.

23.    If a car is dead on the track, when racing is in progress, the Driver must stay in the car with seat belts fastened until the race is stopped, except in case of a fire or rollover.  Failure to comply may result in a penalty, disqualification, and/or suspension.

24.    No racecars will be allowed on the track until the track has been opened for official practice or racing.

25.    No person shall be permitted to ride on the outside of a racecar, tow vehicle or trailer at any time.

26.    No speeding in the pits.  You must use caution while driving in the pit area or you will be subject to a fine or suspension.  No donuts, burnouts, etc. allowed.  We need to keep the pits safe for Drivers and all others.

27.    ORIGINAL START:  You must take the Green Flag at the start of the main event in order to compete in that main event.  If you come out once the race has started, you will be black flagged and parked. 

28.    On the original start of any race, Drivers must stay double file and may not pass until you cross the start/finish line at the flag stand.  If you pass prior to this spot, you will receive a black flag.

29.    On any start of a race, if a car drops out, the line will move up.  Example:  If a car on the inside row, say the third place car, falls out of line and cannot start the race, then that row only will move ahead.  Same as if the sixth place car falls out, then only the outside row will move ahead.

30.    RE-START:  On a re-start, you must stay in line, single file, until the green flag is displayed.  At that time, you can only pass to the RIGHT until you cross the start/finish line.  If you fall out of line or pass to the left, you will receive the black flag. 

31.    GREEN FLAG:  On any start or re-start, you will always receive the green.  If the Race Director does not like the start, he will then throw the yellow, and re-start the race.  Drivers on the front row of any race, get two (2) chances on the original start.  If two (2) starts are waved off, they go to the back of the pack.

32.    On the original start, or re-start, you must maintain pace car speed once the pace car has left the racetrack.  Slowing down or speeding up will result in a black flag.  In the middle of turns three (3) and four (4), there is an orange stripe on the wall.  This is designated as the start and/or re-start stripe/line.  If a Driver picks up his or her speed, (faster than the pace car speed), or jumps the start or re-start before you get to the orange stripe, you will receive the black flag.

33.    YELLOW FLAG:  When a yellow flag or yellow lights comes on, you will slow and maintain your position, you may not pass, failure to do so will result in being put to the back of the field.  Under each caution, the first three (3) yellow laps will count on races of 51 to 100 laps.  If you are unsure what position you are in, pull up beside the Driver in question and wait for the Officials to direct you to your proper restart position.  If you are involved in or cause a caution, you go to the rear of the field.  If you stop to avoid the wreck (caution) and were not involved in or caused the caution, you will get your position back.  Race Director’s discretion applies. 

34.    RED FLAG:  Cars must come to a complete, safe stop.  Drivers are not allowed to move their car off the track on a red flag.  Drivers may exit the track, only by permission of an Official or when the track goes to a yellow condition.  Failure to abide by this rule will result in a two (2)-lap penalty, fined, probation, disqualification, and/or suspension.  Repairs or service of any nature or refueling will NOT be permitted when the race is halted due to a red flag.  All work must stop on any car in the pits when the red flag is displayed during the race, unless the car has officially withdrawn from the event.  Work must not be resumed until the red flag is withdrawn.

35.    BLACK FLAG:  Drivers receiving a black flag will automatically receive a one (1) lap penalty, regardless if they lose a lap in the pits or not.  If under caution when you receive the black flag, you will be held at re-entry for one (1) full lap of racing.  Two (2) black flags in one (1) event will result in a disqualification from that event.

36.    MIRROR DRIVING RULE:  Mirror driving, blocking and/or Spotter blocking will not be tolerated.  First time – Black flag warning, Second time – Black flag, Third time – parked for the night.

37.    TEN (10) LAP RULE:  Any restarts in the last ten (10) laps will be single file with the lead lap cars in front and all other cars in the order they were on the track, behind them.

38.    Drivers are to notify the Technical Officials, Pit Stewards, or the Race Director, immediately of any changes in the starting grid.  Example: car broke; want to start in the back.

39.    POINTS:  If there is a tie in the point’s standings, all ties will be broken using the greatest number of firsts.  If a tie still exists, the number of seconds, thirds, etc will be used in the same manner, until the tie is broken.

 

1. COMPETING MODELS:

(A)       Any 1999 through current American made sedans or coupes.  Minimum wheelbase 101”.  Percentages must be maintained before the event, a weight allowance for fuel will be given when scaled following the main event.  Steel-headed motors must weigh 2950 lbs. minimum and 58% maximum Left side weight with Driver.  Late Model Challenge Series Brodix “spec” headed legal motor must weigh 2900 lbs minimum and 58% maximum Left side weight with Driver.  9 to 1 Tour legal motor with 390 cfm Tour legal carburetor must weigh 2900 lbs minimum and 58% maximum Left side weight with Driver.  Stock front clip maximum tread width with 69” at center of the spindle.  Fabricated front clip maximum tread width 67” at center of the spindle. 

(B)       ALL Super Stock cars will be required to have a transponder on their car.  You can buy it or rent it from RaceCar Supply.

 

2. BODIES:

(A)            Bodies must be fiberglass or aluminum; all bodies must maintain original dimensions.  Must be installed in a professional manner and meet manufactures guidelines.  No exotic wedge type or homemade bodies allowed.

(B)            Minimum 47” roof height required, measured 10” back from top edge of the front windshield.  Minimum 4” ground clearance on all components – nose, skirts, rocker panels, etc, without Driver.  Maximum 35” quarter panel height at rear of panels.  Maximum 15” ground clearance at rear quarter panels and rear bumper cover.

(C)       The outside of the front nose can be a maximum of 1-1/2” past the outside of the front tires.

(D)       Hood must fit in original position and maintain the original configuration.  A minimum of four (4) hood pins at the leading edge of the hood and two (2) hood pins or hinges at the trailing edge.  All body parts and panels must be fastened securely and in a manner acceptable to Technical Officials.

(E)       A non-adjustable rear spoiler, not to exceed a maximum of 6-1/2” off the deck lid and no more than a maximum of 60” wide (width measured at the rear of the spoiler).  The spoiler must maintain the same contour as the rear of the car, must be mounted with no less then 1/4” bolts and flat washers (No pop rivets or screws allowed), and mounted no further rearward than the trailing edge of the stock dimension trunk, and must be centered on the rear of the car.  Spoiler can be constructed of aluminum or 1/4” Lexan.  The top of the spoiler cannot be more than 41-1/2” off the ground.  It is mandatory that the top 3-1/2” full length of the rear spoiler on all cars is 1/4” thick, flat, clear Lexan.  No rudders, front braces, or forward mounting wire.  Maximum of six (6) rear braces allowed.  They must be bolted with no less than 1/4” bolts and flat washers.  No pop rivets or screws allowed.  Maximum 3/4” roof rails. 

(F)       NO decals on spoiler of any kind allowed.

(G)       The rear deck lid must be able to be opened for inspection purposes.  Positive metal fasteners must be used on the right and left sides of deck lid. 

(H)       Cowl opening must be no larger than 2-1/2” x 20”.

(I)         No streamlining allowed, no under and/or belly pans allowed.

(J)       All cars must have complete bodies; bodies must be in top quality condition.  All bodies must be acceptable to Technical Officials.

(K)            Windshield is mandatory, minimum of 1/8” Lexan. Side port windows and rear windows allowed and must use a minimum of 1/8” Lexan.  Must have three vertical braces inside the windshield spaced at least 6” apart and centered. Must be welded or bolted with a minimum of 1/4” bolts and flat washers to the roof hoop and the dash.  Materials permitted are 3/4” x .065 tubing, 1/8” x 1” flat bar or 1/2” solid.

(L)       All cars must have a dashboard, and be a minimum of .035 steel or aluminum.

(M)            Driver's floorboard must be a minimum .090 steel plate.  All interior panels inside the perimeter of the main roll cage must be fabricated with a minimum .030 steel and must be welded.  All panels outside the main cage may be fabricated with either .030 steel or aluminum.  All panels must seal to left and right side body panels.  No holes permitted between firewalls and Driver's compartment.

 

3. SUSPENSION:

(A)            Independent front suspension of steel construction is mandatory, with articulated upper and lower control arms.  Major steering components including steering arms, tie rod ends, idlers, spindles, must be OEM, steel, or fabricated steel.  Center link, lower control arms, etc. must be steel or fabricated steel.

(B)       Stock factory type steering or rack and pinion steering allowed.

(C)       Rear suspension may be either a two (2)-link truck arm style or a three (3)-link type suspension.

(D)       All coil springs must be heavy duty steel, must be 2-1/2” minimum OD for coil over cars and 5” minimum OD for big spring cars. 

(E)       No weight adjusting, track bar, or top link adjusters devices allowed within reach of the Driver while inside the car. 

(F)            Aluminum heim joints are not permitted; all components must be mounted with heavy-duty steel heim joints.

(G)       Type of shock absorber is optional, one (1) per wheel.  No reservoir shocks and no electronic shocks.

(H)            Hydraulic brakes are mandatory.  Brakes must be solid mount (no free floating) in good working order on all four (4) corners.  Aluminum multi-piston calipers permitted.

(I)         The rear ends must meet the following requirements: Floater or quick changes mandatory, no cambered housings, and drive plates must be one (1) piece with a single internal spine.  Steel tubes only, no aluminum, no more than 2” tube offset.  Grease fittings are not permitted on drive plates or axle caps.

(J)            Minimum ground clearance of frame and all components are 4” without driver.  Variance for minimum clearance of exhaust system components will be allowed.

(K)            Wheels:             Maximum 10” steel wheels permitted.  Must be approved for racing Aero, Circle, Bassett etc.  No remanufactured or homemade wheels.  No bead lock wheels permitted or extreme beads.

(L)       Tires:             South Sound Speedway 2007/2008 approved tire - American Racer 10”, EC21 Left, and EC31 Right.  No tire softening allowed.  You may purchase tires anytime for practice.  You must qualify and start the main event on the same four tires. 

(M)      If you have a tire go flat, you must use a tire that is approved by the Technical Official. 

 

4. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:

(A)       Stock production V-8 cast iron engines only.  Must match model (by brand) GM-to-GM, Ford to Ford and Mopar to Mopar.  Maximum 358 CID for Ford and GM engines.  Maximum 365 CID for Mopar engines.  Dry sumps allowed.

(B)       No roller cams allowed.  (Exception:  Tour legal motors only).

(C)       Stock production cast iron or Dart cast iron heads allowed.  Aluminum heads and roller cam may be run on tour legal motor and must run a Tour Legal 390 cfm carburetor only.  LMCS aluminum Brodix “spec” head, part number SPCH, SPFO, OR SPMO, only.  No port matching allowed on any head.

(D)            Aluminum or cast intake allowed.  No porting, polishing, or deburring of runners allowed.  1” maximum port matching permitted on runners from the gasket surface where the intake bolts to the head only.

(E)            Headers are allowed.  Header style and tube size optional.

(F)       Any Holley carburetor permitted with a base plate hole diameter 1-11/16” maximum.  Only a one (1)-piece solid carburetor spacer, maximum 1” thickness may be installed between the carburetor and the intake manifold.  An open or four (4) hole spacer may be used.  Spacer must be straight cut with no taper or bevel.  One (1) gasket per side with a .050 maximum thickness.  Maximum air filter element size: 4” x 16” with a solid cover.  Must be dry, paper type element.  No K & N filters or K & N covers allowed.

(G)       All cars will be allowed a 2” engine setback.  Ford and Mopar cars are allowed 3".  Engine setback will be measured from the farthest forward Left side spark plug hole to the centerline of the ball joint.  No tilting or angling of engine.  A 10" minimum crankshaft height must be retained.  The engine must be located so that the centerline is within 1" of the centerline of the front tread width of the car (1” off set).

(H)            Electronic distributors are permitted, must be stock type housing, equipped with a magnetic pick up, gear driven and mounted in stock location.  No magnetos allowed.  No traction control.

(I)            Transmissions of in and out type are not allowed.  Transmission is mandatory, either a manual three (3) speed or four (4) speed with a reverse working gear, or an automatic with a working reverse gear.  All transmissions are subject to the Technical Official’s approval.  No five (5) speed (or greater) transmissions.  No quick-change transmissions.

(J)       Must have steel scatter shield when using over 7-1/4" diameter clutch assembly.  Automatic transmissions may use reinforced belting of 3/8" minimum thickness material.  Entire transmission hump, to the end of the transmission, must be covered if belt material is used.  Belt material must be securely fastened.

(K)       A one-piece steel or aluminum drive shaft is permitted and must be painted white.  Drive shaft must be surrounded by either two (2) 360 degree solid steel straps no less that 2" x .125 or chain 1/4" thick or cable 1/4" thick and be placed not more than 12" from each universal joint and fastened to the floor or cross member.

1.         A Roll cage is required.  Roll cage minimum 1 3/4 " x .095 round  ERW or DOM tubing.  Roll cage must have main hoop, roof hoop, two (2) A-Post bars, dash, and main hoop spreader bars and main hoop diagonal bar.  Minimum of three (3) door bars on Left side.  Left side door bars must radius out to within 1" of the door skin.  Door bars must be tied to frame at center.  An upright brace between each door bar shall be welded into place.  Right side door bars may run straight between hoops instead of curving out to bodyline.  Bars must be of the same material as roll cage and similarly gusseted.  It is mandatory that a 10 gauge steel plate completely covering all of the left side door bars – front to rear, top to bottom and be solidly welded in place.

2.         Roll bars in Driver’s area must be padded.

(B)          CHASSIS: 

1.            Mainframe rail structure of chassis, defined as the primary structure to which the roll cage center section mounts to must be constructed of steel having a minimum perimeter of 10" (2" x 3" etc.) and be a minimum .120 wall thickness in that portion of the frame contained within the wheelbase.  Front and rear sub frame sections extending from the center section must also be 10" perimeter members, but may have a minimum wall thickness of .083.  If the frame rails are 12" perimeter, (3" x 3") minimum wall thickness may be .090.

2.            Mainframe rails or clip sections may not be pierced, drilled, or otherwise altered for reducing weight.  Absolutely no holes will be tolerated in the mainframe rails or sub frames except to facilitate component attachment and/or brackets.

3.            Mainframe rails shall be configured so the rails are located within the outside track width area of the car.  If a lead rail extends outside the mainframe rail, it may not extend outside a longitudinal line projected between the outside vertical surfaces of the wheels.

 

6. SAFETY:

(A)          FUEL CELL:

1.         The use of a commercially manufactured, rubberized or Kevlar fabric, bladder style fuel cell is mandatory.  NO PLASTIC FUEL CELLS ALLOWED.  The maximum capacity, including filler spout and overflow vent check valves is 22 gallons.  Filler spout and overflow check valves are required.  No materials other than standard foam supplied by the fuel cell manufacturer are permitted to make the fuel cell meet the 22-gallon capacity.  Minimum ground clearance is 10".

2.         Fuel cell container is required.  The fuel cell must be enclosed in a container of not less than 22 gauge steel.

3.         Fuel cell and fuel cell container must be fastened to the frame in a recessed frame support as far forward in the trunk area and at an equal distance between the frame rails.

4.         Fuel cell and the fuel cell container must be secured with 1” x 1” x .065 steel tubing.  Not less than two (2) lengthwise, and two (2) crosswise, and two (2) across the top, evenly spaced at the top and must bolt to container support frame.  The support frame must have two (2) tubes that are welded to and extend between the left and right frame rails.  Three (3) tubes must be evenly spaced across the recessed well (front to rear).  These tubes must be welded to the cross support tubes and extend down the front side, rear side, and under the fuel cell container.  If the fuel cell container has a bolt-on top, it must be bolted together with a minimum of 1/4” diameter bolts spaced a maximum of 4” apart.  If the fuel cell container has a bolt in end panel, it must be fastened together with a minimum 10/32” diameter screws with nuts spaced a maximum of 4” apart.  No sheet metal screws or pop rivets are to be used to secure to top or end panel of a fuel cell.

5.         A protective bar, minimum 1 3/4" x .090 must extend below the rear frame section behind the fuel cell.  This protective bar must be as wide at the rear frame rails and extend as low as the bottom of the cell with two vertical uprights evenly spaced between the frame rails and attached to the rear cross member.  Two (2) support bars; one (1) located on each corner must angle upwards and be welded to the rear frame rails.

6.         A reinforcement plate, of not less than 14 gauge (0.078) inch thick magnetic flat steel, must be installed behind the fuel cell container.  The plate must extend the entire width and height of the fuel cell container.  The plate must be welded in the spaces between the rear cross member and/or the cross bracing at the rear of the rear sub frame.  It must be welded with a 1” weld, spaced a maximum of 4” apart.

7.         All fuel lines must be under the car or encased in metal pipe or conduit with no connections through the Drivers compartment.

8.         No exotic and/or fuel additives allowed.  Fuel will comply with ASTM D4814, Standard Specification for Automotive Spark Ignition Fuel.  No electric fuel pumps, no fuel cooling devices, no NOS, no Oxygen bearing agents, no Nitro, no HRB-11.

(B)          SEATS: 

Only approved, custom manufactured, aluminum seats are permitted, Minimum .090 thickness required.  It is recommended that all seats have padded rib protectors and seat leg extensions on both sides.  A padded headrest is mandatory.  Seat and belts must be mounted to the roll cage, not the floor pan.  Four (4) Grade 8, 1/2" bolts, and flat washers must be used.

(C)          BELTS: 

A quick release lap belt no less than 3" wide is required.  Both ends of the lap belt and both ends of the shoulder harness must be fastened to the roll bar with Grade 8 bolts not less than 1/2" in diameter.  The shoulder harness and lap belts must be bolted so that the ends of the belts move freely.  Shoulder harness must be no less than 3" wide and must come from behind driver's seat.  Where the harness crosses the roll cage, it must pass through a steel guide welded to the cage that will prevent the harness from sliding side to side.  Shoulder harness inertia reels cannot be used.  A center (crotch) or submarine belt must be mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom.  Where the belt passes through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled and/or padded to prevent cutting.  All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle.  Seat belts must be dated by the manufacturer and must not be used beyond five (5) years after the manufacture date.  If a HANS device is being used, then the HANS style seat belts may be used.

 

(D)          HELMETS:

 It will be mandatory for ALL Drivers to wear a helmet carrying a valid, orange SA2000 or newer, standard Snell sticker, at all times while on the racing surface.  NO motorcycle helmets and NO “M” Snell sticker helmets allowed.  Helmets must accompany the car at time of all inspections.  It is strongly recommended that all Drivers record blood type and RH factor, plus any major medical allergies to adhesive tape label to outside back of helmet.

(E)          CLOTHING: 

Drivers must wear an approved Nomex or Proban driving suit at all times when the car is on the track.  It is strongly recommended that the Driver's suit be at least two (2) layers thick.  Driving suits must effectively cover entire body.  It is strongly recommended that the Drivers wear Nomex underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire resistant material.

(F)          WINDOW NET: 

A nylon window screen is mandatory; the window screen must be a rib type, made from 3/4" wide nylon material with a maximum of 1" square opening between the ribs.  The minimum window screen size shall be 22" wide by 16" high.  It must release from top with seat belt type latches, and it must be fastened to the roll cage top bar and highest Drivers door bar on the cage.  All window net mounts must be welded to the roll cage.

(G)    FIRE EXTINGUISHER: 

It is mandatory to have an on-board, pressurized, fire extinguisher system.  This cylinder must contain a minimum of five (5) lbs of fire extinguisher agent visibly designated on the label, of the Halon 1211, Halon 1301, dupont FE-36, or equivalent type.  It is required that each car have, within the Drivers reach, a manually controlled push or pull knob which activates the fully charged fire extinguishing pressurized cylinder with a visible, operating pressure gauge.  This fire extinguisher must be securely mounted to the frame and/or roll cage structure and must not use hose clamps, worm drive clamps, duct tape, or cable ties.  The gauge must be easily visible for the Technical Official to read.  

It is mandatory that all entrants have in their pits, at all times, a fully charged 10 lb. Class B fire extinguisher, showing current inspection certificate and a visible operating pressure gauge.

 

7. GENERAL RULES:

(A)       An ON/OFF ignition switch will be installed within reach of the driver when belted in the car.  The on/off switch will be clearly marked.  A MASTER on/off switch must be located on the roll bar directly behind the driver and accessible from the outside and must kill power to the entire car.

(B)       Car must have securely fastened working muffler with exhaust exiting behind the driver.  Maximum sound level is 95 decibels at 100 Feet.  Will be strictly enforced. 

(C)       Ballast weight must be securely attached to mainframe or major cross member structure with a minimum of two (2) 3/8” bolts.  It is strongly recommended that majority of the ballast weight be contained inside the frame rails.  Must be painted white and display car number.  Must be in block form of no less than five (5) lbs.  No ballast/weight shifting devices allowed.  No "outrigger type" ballast weight brackets.  No dumbbell or weight lifting weights allowed. 

(D)            Battery may not be mounted in the Drivers compartment.  Battery must be securely bolted to a mounting structure.

(E)       No electric fuel pumps allowed.

(F)       No onboard computer, record keeping devices, or wiring permitted.

(G)       No traction control devices of any kind allowed.

(H)       Super Stock cars must be registered by South Sound Speedway and will be assigned a number.  Call SHELLY CHASE AT 360-753-1692 for number.  Last years numbers will be reserved until the January registration meeting, at which time the numbers will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.  Numbers are to be displayed on the car as follows: A minimum 24" high by 3" wide number is required on both door areas.  A Minimum 30" high by 3" wide number is required on the roof of the car readable from the right side of the car.  All cars must have a 5” number on the top right hand corner of the windshield and/or right head light cover.  All numbers must be legible with paint schemes approved by South Sound Speedway.  Sponsors names and lettering must not interfere with the car numbers.  No Metallic or reflective numbers are allowed.  They must be able to be seen at night across the track.  South Sound Speedway retains the right to approve commercial or editorial messages on competing cars.  Suggestive or rude remarks are not permitted on cars.

(I)            Rainout Policy:  NO CASH REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN.  If ANY car takes the track for practice, there will be only a half rain check given.  Full rain check only if cars have not taken the track.
