Cody Erskine Wins Street Stock Main Event

Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday May 10, 2014, was full of excitement with five classes on hand, Top Notch Trailer Street Stock, D&S Light Truck and Auto Mini Stocks, Hinkle Homes Hobby Stocks, Cut Rate Baby Grand, and Stinger 8s.

 

Street Stock event started with Derek Kynaston on the pole and Mike Kanavan on the outside. On the green flag, Parker Stephens spins before the starting line. Shawn Jones gets a roller for pushing his way through going three wide. Kanavan takes the lead on lap 1. On lap 14, turn 1, Stephens spins, and back of his car hits the wall. On lap 19, on the front stretch, Greg Davidson spins. Chad Hinkle takes the lead on lap 33. On lap 34, on the front stretch, Robert Mears spins. On lap 35, turns 1 and 2, Hinkle's car catches on fire from a broken power steering hose.  Cody Erskine takes the lead on lap 36. On lap 44, turns 3 and 4, Kynaston spins. Erskine goes on to win the 50 lap Street Stock Main event, followed by Richard Kerr, Jones, Davidson, and Kanavan to round out the top 5.   

Hinkle had fast time for the night with 14.868.

 

Mini Stock Main event started with Derek Vetter on the pole and Kyle Matthews on the outside.  Kevin Conway takes the lead on lap 1. On lap 12, turn 2, Conway and Michael Sprouffske get together and spin. Kyle Matthews takes the lead on lap 13. Devin Matthews takes the lead on lap 17. On lap 20, turn 4, Bill Hayes and Jon Baglien spin. On lap 24, turn 1, Josh McMillan and Kyle Matthews get together causing several cars to wreck. On lap 37, on the back stretch Sprouffske and Josh Johnston get stuck together and tap the back wall. On lap 38, on the front stretch, Vetter and Baglien spin. Devin Matthews goes on to win the 40 lap Mini Stock Main event, followed by Dennis Shaffer, John Morse, Dwayne DeYoung, and Grant Charneski to round out the top 5.

Shaffer had fast time for the night with 15.943.

 

Hobby Stock Main event started with Justin Blang on the pole and Charles Meadors on the outside. On the Green flag, turn 2, Meadors spins, complete restart. Meadors takes the lead on lap 1. Dan Walker takes the lead on lap 11 and goes on to win the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main event, followed by Meadors, Kelly Foster, Blang and Chris Branon to round out the top 5.

Walker had fast time for the night with 16.112.

 

Baby Grand Main event started with Kenny Wilson on the pole and Corey Boyle on the outside. Wilson takes the lead on lap 1. Mike Crawford takes the lead on lap 2. On lap 5, turn 4, Wilson spins. On the restart, turn 2, Corey Boyle spins. On the next restart, turn 1, Wilson and Corey Boyle spin. Brad McCutcheon takes the lead on lap 5, and goes on to win the 20 lap Baby Grand Main event, followed by Jim Guinn, Crawford, Curt Boyle, and Wilson to round out the top 5.

McCutcheon had fast time for the night with 15.097.

 

Stinger 8 Main event started with Shawn Breitzman on the pole and Richard Woolverton on the outside. Woolverton takes the lead on lap 1. Will Ridenhour takes the lead on lap 4 and goes on to win the 20 lap Stinger 8 Main event, followed by Chris Branon, Breitzman, Zach Dalrymple and Woolverton to round out the top 5.
