Devin Matthews Wins First Main Event Of Season
Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday April 28th was full of excitement. In the D&S Light Truck and Auto Mini Stock main event, Devin Matthews starts on the pole with Zach Dalrymple on the outside. Matthews takes the lead on Lap 1. On Lap 6, Turn 4, Mark Johnson, Dalrymple, and John Morse spin for the first caution of the 30 Lap main. All drivers were able to continue. On Lap 11, Turn 2, Tina McMillan accidentally spins Craig Pfander, Bill Hayes then hits Pfander, Scott Maynard hits Hayes, and Kevin Conway hits Pfander. Race was Red flagged, McMillan gets black flagged, all drivers were reported as being fine and all wrecked cars were removed from the track. Racing restarted and Matthews goes on to win his first main event this season in Mini Stocks (moving him from 15th in points to 14th). John Morse finished 2nd (with fast time of 16.615 moves him from 6th to 2nd in points), followed by Renny Marose, Freeman Pruitt and Jon Baglien to round out the top 5.
Hinkle Homes Hobby Stocks 25 Lap main event went off with no cautions. Don Briggs Jr. starts on the pole with Chris Branon on the outside. Briggs Jr. takes the lead on Lap 1. After several attempts to pass Briggs Jr., on Lap 15, Dan Walker finally passes Briggs Jr., and takes over the lead for the win. Walker had fast time of 17.328 keeping him in the lead for points. Joe Swanson finished 2nd (which moves him from 3rd in points to 2nd), followed by Anthony Barbera (which moves the Barbera/Pedersen ride from 5th in points to 3rd), Don Briggs Jr., and Bryson Baird rounding out the top 5.
NW Baby Grands 20 Lap main event also went off with no cautions. Mike Crawford started on the pole, with Mark Maynard Jr., on the outside. Jim Guinn takes the lead on Lap 1. Brad Crawford then takes over the lead on Lap 6. Guinn retakes the lead on Lap 16 and goes on to win. Brad Crawford finished in 2nd, followed by Mike Crawford and Maynard Jr., No change in the point standings.
Tire Dogs Bumblebees 20 Lap main event started with Curtiss Buchanan on the pole, with Jonathan Curfman on the outside. Grant Charneski took the lead on Lap 1. Curfman gets a mechanical flag for a flat tire on Lap 7 and leaves the track. Anthony Gerber gets blacked on lap 10 for rough driving and leaves the track. Gerber returns to the track on lap 12 making him 2 Laps down. Charles LaMere takes over the lead on Lap 18 and goes on to win the race (moving him from 2nd in points to 1st). Charneski finished 2nd (which moves him from 5th in points to 3rd). Chris Branon finished 3rd (which moves him from 3rd in points to 2nd), followed by Shawn Breitzman and Richard Woolverton to round out the top 5.
FSCRA (Foreign Stock Car Racing Association), started their 30 Lap main event off with John Musser on the pole and Cody Stewart on the outside. Stewart takes the lead on Lap 1. On Lap 4 a caution comes out when Fast Time setter Matt Melby blows up in turn 2, putting him out of the race. Racing continues. On Lap 12 John Grosvenor takes the lead from Stewart and goes on for the win. Wayne Dillon finished 2nd followed by Stewart, Scott Graf and the Rookie Kayla Pittman to round out the top 5.
