2013-2015 MINI STOCK RULES
RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER:
The rules and/ or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptance requirements for such auto racing events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.
NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND / OR REGULATIONS.
These rules and regulations are intended as a guide for the conduct of auto racing at South Sound Speedway and are in no way a guarantee against injury, or death to a participant, spectator, officials, or others.
The Race Director and/or Technical Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications or rules herein, or impose any further restrictions that, in their opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

Any interpretation of, or deviation from these specifications or rules is left to the discretion of the Race Director and/or Technical Officials. Their decision will be final.
1. COMPETING MODELS:
(A) Any 4-passenger sedan type car, foreign or domestic, originally equipped with a 4-cylinder engine. 1993-2003 V6 Ford Mustangs allowed but must run a 4-cylinder in stock location. NO V6 engines allowed. Maximum wheelbase of 104”. Rotary engines, turbos, four-wheel drives, and rear engine cars are NOT allowed. Minimum weight 2300 lbs. with Driver. Maximum Left side weight 55% with Driver. Percentages must be maintained before the event, a weight allowance for fuel will be given when scaled following the main event.
(B) VW Front engine, front wheel drive, with solid rear axle only: 2100 lb, with 350 Carb or Mechanical fuel injection only. No more than ½ degree camber in rear. Solid camshaft, and aluminum head ok, no port or polish. Weight may be adjusted for balance in competition. Follow all the rest of the engine rules
(C) You may put any 4-cylinder engine in any make of car. Ford to Chevrolet; Dodge to Ford; Ford toToyota, etc. allowed. If in doubt, ask the Race Director or Technical Director.
(D) ALL Mini Stock cars will be required to have a transponder on their car. You can buy it or rent it from Race Car Supply. The transponders must be mounted on the right rear side of the frame. It must be mounted so that the leading edge of the transponder is 15” back from the center of the rear end axle tube. Raceceivers will be required.
(A) Bodies must be OEM steel and must remain stock. Five Star aftermarket steel only replacement fenders, doors, quarter panels, etc. allowed. You may trim the inner and outer fender panel. Entire floor pan must remain stock as well as front and rear firewalls. Firewalls will be sealed with .035 minimum sheet metal. (See Amendment)
(B) All cars must have complete bodies. Bodies must be top quality condition. NO fiberglass body components of any kind allowed. Stock only OEM front nose and rear bumper cover or only Five Star aftermarket front nose and rear bumper cover allowed. NO dirt track style noses. NO homemade front spoilers. NO wings or homemade valances allowed. All bodies must be acceptable to Technical Officials.
(C) The outside of the front nose can be a maximum of 1-1/2” past the outside of the front tires.
(D) After market Five Star steel tube bumpers allowed in stock location behind front nose and/or rear bumper cover.
(E) Hood must close in the original position and maintain the original configuration. A minimum of four (4) hood pins at the leading edge of the hood and two (2) hood pins or hinges at the trailing edge. No hood scoops or bubbles allowed. All body parts must be fastened securely and in a manner acceptable to Technical Officials.
(F) A stock and/or aftermarket non-adjustable rear spoiler, not to exceed a maximum of 4” off the deck lid and no more than a maximum of 56” wide (width measured at the rear of the spoiler). The spoiler must maintain the same contour as the rear of the car, must be mounted with no less then 1/4” bolts and flat washers (No pop rivets or screws allowed), and mounted no further rearward than the trailing edge of the stock dimension trunk, and must be centered on the rear of the car. Spoiler can be constructed of aluminum or 1/4” Lexan. It is mandatory that the top 3” full length of the rear spoiler on all cars is 1/4” thick, flat, clear Lexan. No rudders, front braces, or forward mounting wire. Maximum of four (4) rear braces allowed. They must be bolted with no less than 1/4” bolts and flat washers. No pop rivets or screws allowed.
(G) NO decals on spoiler of any kind are allowed.
(H) It is mandatory that a full dashboard be intact.
(I) The trunk must be able to be opened for inspection purposes. Positive metal fasteners or pins must be used on the right and left sides of trunk.
(J) No streamlining allowed, no under and/or belly pans allowed.
(K) All flammable material must be removed, along with chrome strips, door handles, ornaments, etc.
(L) All glass must be removed with the exception of the front windshield. This includes headlights, taillights, etc.
(M) Windshield is mandatory, but may be replaced with minimum of 1/8” Lexan. Side port windows are allowed. Rear windows allowed but must use a minimum of 1/8” Lexan. Must have three (3) 1/8” x 1” flat bar vertical braces inside the windshield spaced at least 5” apart and centered. They can be either welded or bolted to the roof and dash with a minimum of 1/4” bolts and flat washers.
(N) You may have a left side maximum 4” round mirror that cannot protrude outside the bodyline of the car. The inside mirror can be a maximum of 17” x 3”.
(A) All working suspension must be stock. All components must be unaltered OEM for the make, model, and year of the car. All steering components must be stock for the make, model, and year of the car. Maximum 2” camber in RF and Max 2” in LF allowed with Driver in car. No use of metal knuckles. Rear control arms must remain stock for the make, model, and year of car and must remain in stock location. All bushings must remain in stock location. Polyurethane, Teflon, etc. suspension bushings are optional. Heavy-duty ball joints are permitted. No adjustable ball joints permitted.
(B) Torching or cutting of springs or use of lowering blocks is optional. Aftermarket racing springs allowed. Springs must remain in the stock location and mounting points.
(C) Front and rear weight jacks or adjustable spring spacers are allowed. NOT to be able to be adjusted by the Driver during the race.
(D) Minimum 4” ground clearance on frame and all components with Driver in car.
(E) Any non adjustable steel strut allowed. Upper (top only) aftermarket camber/caster adjustable strut brackets allowed.
(F) Any non adjustable steel shock mounted in stock location with stock shock mounting hardware allowed. Front Strut towers may be removed.
(G) Car will have brakes in good working condition on all four corners of the car. No aftermarket rotors or calipers. Calipers must be stock OEM cast iron. No rear disc brakes of any kind. Brake proportioning valves are optional on rear brakes only. NO shut off valves allowed. Stock OEM master cylinder only.
(F) REAR ENDS: Any rear-end in any car, but must use stock mounts per car used and must be bolted in stock location. NO MODIFICATIONS. Locked rear ends optional, No Lockers, gleason’s, DPI units ect. NO quick change, or floater rear ends. NO cambered rear ends allowed. NO independent rear suspension allowed.
(H) Wheels: Racing wheels are mandatory. 8” maximum width. NO stock wheels. NO remanufactured or homemade wheels allowed. No bead lock wheels permitted or extreme beads.
(I) TIRES: South Sound Speedway Mini Stock approved tire only. Must be stamped with RCS.
4. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:
(A) All engines must be stock. NO strokers allowed. Crank must be stock OEM unaltered for engine block. NO domed pistons allowed. Dished or flat top pistons only. NO rotary engines. Max 2300 engine block. See Amendment
(B) All engines must be mounted in original stock factory location. No engine setback.
(C) Stock OEM head must be used for make/model/year of engine. NO port matching, porting, polishing or deburring of port and/or combustion chambers permitted. NO angle milling of heads. Heads can be shaved. Stock hydraulic lifters, stock valve size for head used. Modified hydraulic cams allowed. NO roller cams, NO solid lifter cams allowed. You may use an aftermarket adjustable cam gear in place of the stock cam gear. Lifters must collapse.
(D) You may use any coil type battery ignition, NO magnetos.
(E) Stock carbureted or fuel injected intake manifold only.
(F) CARBURETOR: Stock OEM, two (2) barrel not to exceed 350 CFM maximum, or Holly #7448 two (2) barrel, not to exceed 350 CFM maximum. All carburetors must have an unaltered choke tower and you must be able to read the factory 7448 number clearly on the chock tower. No modifications, alterations, removal, or addition of any parts other than the removal of the choke plate. NO side drafts, NO blowers, NO nitrous, and NO turbos. Maximum 1” spacer and/or adapter permitted between the carburetor and intake manifold. Carburetor must have an air cleaner on at all times. Maximum air filter element size 4” x 16”. K & N filters allowed. No foam air cleaners. No devices of any kind that direct or duct air to or from the air filter allowed. Air filter must have a solid cover. NO K & N covers allowed.
(G) All cars must have an oil pressure shut off switch to disable the electric fuel pump.
(H) NO traction control.
(I) Any stock transmission 3-speed, 4-speed, or 5-speed or automatic for make, model, and year of car. NO lockup converters, torque converter must be operational.
NO aftermarket clutches, multi-disc clutches, Gold Star clutches, flywheels or pressure plates allowed. Clutch and pressure plate will be stock. Aluminum flywheels or aftermarket steel will be allowed. Transmissions must be bolted directly to engine or bell housing without alteration. Reverse gear must be in working order. All transmissions are subject to the Technical Official’s approval.
(J) Must have steel scatter shield or reinforced belting of 3/8” minimum thickness material. Entire transmission hump, to the end of the transmission, must be covered if belt material is used. Belt material must be securely fastened.
(K) Drive shaft and universals must be similar in design to standard factory production. Shaft must be steel. No aluminum drive shafts allowed. Must be painted white and be a minimum of 2-3/4” in diameter. The drive shaft must be surrounded by either two (2) 360 degree solid steel straps no less than 2” x .125 or chain 1/4” thick or cable 1/4” thick and be placed not more than 12” from each universal joint and fastened to the floor or cross member.
(L) STOCK OEM EXHAUST MANIFOLDS OR HEADERS ALLOWED. Exhaust may run through car and exit thru the passenger door, but must be completely enclosed with minimum .035 sheet metal. A muffler must be used, 95db @100 feet max.
5. ROLL CAGE:
1. A roll cage is mandatory. It must be fabricated with a minimum of 1-1/2” x .095 round ERW or DOM tubing. Roll cage must have main hoop, roof hoop, two (2) A-post bars, dash and main hoop spreader bars and main hoop diagonal bar. Minimum of three (3) door bars on Driver’s side and two (2) on the passenger side. Left side door bars must radius out to within 1” of the door skin. It is mandatory that a 10 gauge steel plate completely cover all left side door bars from front to rear and top to bottom, and be solidly welded in place. Removal of left inner door panel optional. Right inner door panel may be gutted if door bars extend past inner door panel. Roll cage legs must be attached to the frame rails and not to the floor pan. Dash bar must go over top of the steering column. A minimum of two (2) bars must extend from the top of the main cage, through the rear firewall; to within 6” of the rear cross member of the frame must be a minimum of 1-1/2 x .095. All overhead welds must be gusseted. You may change the stock rear frame rails from just behind the stock spring mounts to a minimum of 1-3/4" (.090) seamless tubing or 2” x 3” (.095) square tubing.
2. Roll bars in Driver’s area must be padded.
(A) FUEL CELL:
1. The use of a commercially manufactured fuel cell is mandatory. The maximum capacity, including filler spout and overflow vent check valves is 15 gallons. Filler spout and overflow check valves are required. The filler neck must not protrude from the body shell. All fuel lines and vent tubes must come out of the top of the fuel cell. The fuel cell vent must exit out of the trunk area on the left rear side of the car. No materials other than standard foam supplied by the fuel cell manufacturer are permitted to make the fuel cell meet the 15-gallon capacity.
2. No fuel pumps allowed in the Driver’s compartment. All cars with an electric fuel pump must have a main kill switch.
3. All cars must have a steel firewall between the Driver and fuel cell. Minimum 20 gauge sheet metal. Trunk floor is to be cut out for adequate drainage of trapped fuel.
4. Fuel cell container is required. The fuel cell must be enclosed in a container of not less than 22 gauge steel.
5. The bottom of the fuel cell’s MINIMUM ground clearance is 10” and must be centered between the frame rails and a MINIMUM of 12” from the back of the bumper.
6. Fuel cell and the fuel cell container must be secured with 1”x1” x .065 steel tubing. Not less than two (2) lengthwise, and two (2) crosswise, and two (2) across the top, evenly spaced at the top and must bolt to container support frame. The support frame must have two (2) tubes that are welded to and extend between the left and right frame rails. Three (3) tubes must be evenly spaced across the recessed well (front to rear). These tubes must be welded to the cross support tubes and extend down the front side, rear side, and under the fuel cell container. If the fuel cell container has a bolt-on top, it must be bolted together with a minimum of 1/4” diameter bolts spaced a maximum of 4” apart. If the fuel cell container has a bolt in end panel, it must be fastened together with a minimum 10/32” diameter screws with nuts spaced a maximum of 4” apart. No sheet metal screws or pop rivets are to be used to secure to top or end panel of a fuel cell.
7. A reinforcement plate, of not less than 14 gauge (0.078) inch thick magnetic flat steel, must be installed behind the fuel cell container. The plate must extend the entire width and height of the fuel cell container. The plate must be welded in the spaces between the rear cross member and/or the cross bracing at the rear of the rear sub frame. It must be welded with a 1” weld, spaced a maximum of 4” apart.
8. FUEL LINE: If your fuel line runs through the Driver’s compartment, then the outside of the fuel line MUST be painted RED or wrapped with RED duct tape. Take a BLACK marker and write on the outside clearly and in big letters, three (3) or more places: “FUEL LINE”.
9. NO exotic and/or fuel additives allowed. Fuel will comply with ASTM D4814, Standard Specification for Automotive Spark Ignition Fuel. NO fuel cooling devices, NO NOS, NO Oxygen bearing agents, NO Nitro, NO HRB-11.
Only approved, custom manufactured, aluminum seats are permitted, Minimum .090 thickness required. Halo seat recommended. NO plastic or fiberglass seats allowed. It is recommended that all seats have padded rib protectors and seat leg extensions on both sides. The seat backrest cannot be mounted further back than the trailing edge of the door or B-post. A padded headrest is mandatory. Seat must be mounted to the roll cage, not the floor pan. A minimum of four (4) Grade 8, 1/2" bolts, and flat washers must be used. No car will be permitted in competition unless the seat is properly installed.
A quick release lap belt no less than 3" wide is required. Both ends of the lap belt and both ends of the shoulder harness must be fastened to the roll bar with Grade 8 bolts not less than 1/2" in diameter. The shoulder harness and lap belts must be bolted so that the ends of the belts move freely. Shoulder harness must be no less than 3" wide and must come from behind driver's seat max 3” below the drivers shoulders or less than 10 degree’s. Where the harness crosses the roll cage, it must pass through a steel guide welded to the cage that will prevent the harness from sliding side to side. Shoulder harness inertia reels cannot be used. A center (crotch) or submarine belt must be mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom. Where the belt passes through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled and/or padded to prevent cutting. All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle. Seat belts must be dated by the manufacturer and must not be used beyond five (5) years after the manufacture date. If a HANS device is being used, then the HANS style seat belts may be used.
It will be mandatory for ALL Drivers to wear a helmet carrying a valid, orange SA2005 or newer, standard Snell sticker,or a sfi 31.1 rating at all times while on the racing surface. NO motorcycle helmets and NO “M” Snell sticker helmets. Helmets must accompany the car at time of all inspections. It is strongly recommended that all Drivers record blood type and RH factor, plus any major medical allergies to adhesive tape label to outside back of helmet.
Drivers must wear an approved Nomex or Proban driving suit at all times when the car is on the track. Driving suits must effectively cover entire body and meet a minimum sfi 3.2A/1 rating. It is strongly recommended that the Drivers wear Nomex underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire resistant material.
(F) WINDOW NET:
A nylon window screen is mandatory; the window screen must be a rib type, made from 3/4" wide nylon material with a maximum of 1-3/4" square opening between the ribs. The minimum window screen size shall be 22" wide by 16" high. It must release from top with seat belt type latches, and it must be fastened to the roll cage top bar and highest Drivers door bar on the cage. All window net mounts must be welded to the roll cage.
(G) FIRE EXTINGUISHER:
It is mandatory to have a Dry charged 2-1/2 lb. minimum, with quick release fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher must be securely mounted to the frame and/or roll cage structure and must not use hose clamps, worm drive clamps, duct tape, or cable ties. It may NOT be taped to the roll cage. Must be fully charged. The gauge must be easily visible for the Technical Official to read. Recommended on-board fire extinguisher system.
It is mandatory that all entrants have in their pits, at all times, a fully charged 10 lb. Class B fire extinguisher, showing current inspection certificate and a visible operating pressure gauge.
7. GENERAL RULES:
(A) An ON/OFF ignition switch will be installed within reach of the driver when belted in the car. The on/off switch will be clearly marked. A MASTER on/off switch must be located on the roll bar directly behind the driver and accessible from the outside and must kill power to the entire car.
(B) Car must have securely fastened working muffler with exhaust exiting behind the driver. Maximum sound level is 95 decibels at 100 Feet. Will be strictly enforced.
(C) Ballast weight must be securely attached to mainframe or major cross member structure with a minimum of two (2) 3/8” bolts. It is strongly recommended that majority of the ballast weight be contained inside the frame rails. Must be painted white and display car number. Must be in block form of no less than five (5) lbs. No ballast/weight shifting devices allowed. NO "outrigger type" ballast weight brackets. NO dumbbell or weight lifting weights allowed.
(D) Battery must be in engine compartment or may be relocated to inside of the car, but not in the trunk area. Battery must be isolated from fuel lines, must be enclosed in a protective container, and must be securely fastened to the floorboard. One battery permitted per car. All cars must be self-starting at the beginning of the program.
(E) If the stock steering column is used, it must be collapsible. Locking column must be disabled. If the stock column is replaced, it must be installed using a minimum of two (2) U-joints with opposing angles.
(F) A one (1) gallon radiator overflow metal catch can must be installed on the right side of the firewall and attached to the radiator overflow. Vent line from catch can must exit on the lower right side of the windshield.
(G) No onboard computer, record keeping devices, or wiring permitted.
(H) No traction control devices of any kind allowed.
(I) Mini Stock cars must be registered by South Sound Speedway and will be assigned a number. Call SHELLY CHASE AT 360-264-1692 for number. Last years numbers will be reserved until the January registration meeting, at which time the numbers will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Numbers are to be displayed on the car as follows: A minimum 24" high by 3" wide number is required on both door areas. A Minimum 30" high by 3" wide number is required on the roof of the car readable from the right side of the car. All cars must have a 5” number on the top right hand corner of the windshield and/or right head light cover. All numbers must be legible with paint schemes approved by South Sound Speedway. Sponsors names and lettering must not interfere with the car numbers. No Metallic or reflective numbers are allowed. They must be able to be seen at night across the track. South Sound Speedway retains the right to approve commercial or editorial messages on competing cars. Suggestive or rude remarks are not permitted on cars.
(J) Rainout Policy: NO CASH REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. If ANY car takes the track for practice, there will be only a half rain check given. Full rain check only if cars have not taken the track.
(K) ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO INTERPRETATION OF THE TRACK OFFICIALS, ANY EQUIPMENT THAT THE OFFICIALS CONSIDER EXOTIC OR NOT IN THE INTENT OF THE RULES WILL BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL FOR COMPETITION. IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS, THE RULES MAY BE ADJUSTED TO CREATE A BALANCE IN COMPETITION OR FOR SAFETY REASONS.
1: Fuel injected ford intake with adaptor for carb is ok.
2: Max 2 inch camber LF is ok, must use factory sized bolts and weld washers where the strut is slotted.
3: Bodies must remain stock appearing. aftermarket sheet metal minimum 22 gauge (0.029) or aluminum minimum (0.030) may be used for door skins, lower fenders, and lower quarter panels, etc must be securely fastened. You may trim the inner and outer fender panel. Entire floor pan must remain stock as well as front and rear firewalls. Firewalls will be sealed with .035 minimum sheet metal.
4: All engines must be stock. NO strokers allowed. Crank must be stock OEM UNALTERED for engine block. NO domed pistons allowed. Dished or flat top pistons only. NO rotary engines. Max 2300 engine block. No cutting or knife edging crankshaft counter balances.
