2007/2008 BUMBLEBEE RULES

 

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER:

The rules and/ or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptance requirements for such auto racing events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND / OR REGULATIONS.

These rules and regulations are intended as a guide for the conduct of auto racing at South Sound Speedway and are in no way a guarantee against injury, or death to a participant, spectator, officials, or others.

The Race Director and/or Technical Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications or rules herein, or impose any further restrictions that, in their opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS OR RULES.

Any interpretation of, or deviation from these specifications or rules is left to the discretion of the Race Director and/or Technical Officials.  Their decision will be final.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Driver of each car represents to the Promoter and all others, that his car has satisfied all applicable rules, including but not limited to safety rules, whenever such Driver participates in any warm-up, practice, or competitive laps.

The Driver of each car is also completely responsible for all actions of Crew Members, Sponsors, or all else signed under their number.

If you have any complaints, disputes, problems, or questions, only the Driver and Crew Chief, Driver and Car Owner, or Driver and one representative from your team may approach an Official, in a civil manner, to resolve the situation.  Any other Crew Members doing will be subject to fines, probations, suspensions, and the Driver disqualified. 

Although the Bumblebee class is designed to be an entry-level class, competitors are reminded they are racing before the paying public the same as the other classes.

All participants are expected to take pride in being part of South Sound Speedway's Weekly program.  Auto racing entertainment is what we have to offer and we will not tolerate the lack of professional attitude, conduct or appearance of car, Driver, Crew or others involved.

This is a STOCK CLASS of car and all parts or components deemed by the Technical Officials to be non-stock will be prohibited.  Use of prohibited parts may result in fines, probation, suspensions, loss of that night’s points and/or disqualification to the Driver, Crew Member and/or Owner.

Any prohibited or illegal part found would become the property of South Sound Speedway.  The South Sound Speedway officials will determine what is to become of the prohibited or illegal part once the entire race season has been completed.

All construction rules will be decided by South Sound Speedway Technical Officials.  Their decision will be final on all construction rules.  Burden of proof on any concern will be the responsibility of the Driver and Car Owner.

These rules are a guideline.  Contact the South Sound Speedway Technical Officials for final approval of your racecar.

The South Sound Speedway Bumblebee division is designed to promote greater interest in stockcar competition, and to enable those with moderate means to participate in the 2007/2008 South Sound Speedway season.

These rules are set for two (2) years, the 2007 and 2008 seasons.  Rules may be subject to change in order to keep competition fair and equal or for safety reasons.

THE FOLLOWING RULES ARE THE BASIC Bumblebee CONSTRUCTION RULES.  TO REGISTER A CAR AND OBTAIN A SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY Bumblebee NUMBER, PLEASE CALL SHELLY CHASE AT 360-753-1692.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

1.      Bumblebee Drivers must have a membership and be a minimum of 16 years of age.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

2.   All Bumblebee Drivers and Crew Members under 18 years of age must present a notarized release to South Sound Speedway before they will be allowed in the pit area.

3.   Releases signed by individuals under 21 years of age are not valid in the State of Washington.

4.   All Bumblebee Drivers, Car Owners, Crew Members, and/or others must be registered members of South Sound Speedway in good standing.

5.   All entrants must have a valid South Sound Speedway pit pass.  ENTRANTS MUST WEAR THEIR PIT BAND AT ALL TIMES.

6.   A Driver may not attempt to qualify more than one car in a single event.  A car may only make one (1) qualifying attempt at a single event.  A Driver must drive the car that he has qualified.  No Driver change and No car change after qualifying.  Racing starts at qualifying.

7.      You will be allowed to have a maximum of two (2) Drivers per car and still have the car earn the points.  Both Drivers must be registered.  These Drivers are not eligible for Rookie of the Year as a team, but are eligible as individuals.  You must sign in as Driver at the pit gate, and only you can drive the car that night.  If you fail to register as the Driver for the night, your car will not receive points or money.  

 

2007/2008 RUNNING & DRIVING RULES:

1.      It is the responsibility of each race team to have in their possession, a current set of rules for the division they are participating.  If a race team member disputes the rules, and that team does not have a current set of rules in their possession or in their pits, then a $25.00 fine will be assessed for each race they do not have them.

2.      The Race Director will be the sole authority in the pits concerning the running of the races.  The Race Director and the Starter/Flagger will be in charge of on-track competition.  The Race Director will handle all protests. 

3.      Officials will establish the race event procedures; starting positions, length, frequency and administration of all events and programs.  When their decision is rendered, that decision will be final and binding.  The race may be shortened due to time allotted or weather and once the race has passed the half waypoint, it will be an official race.

4.      Any complaints, disputes, questions, or problems must be directed, by the Driver or registered Car Owner, to the Race Director immediately following the event.

5.      When asked to remove a part or tear down for tech inspection and you refuse, you are subject to a fine, probation, disqualification, and/or suspension.

6.      Protests, complaints, disputes, or problems ARE NOT TO BE MADE TO THE TIMERS, RECORDERS, SCORERS, OR ANNOUNCERS.

7.      Any Driver stopping on the racing surface to argue with an Official, in regards to an Officials decision, will be automatically disqualified from the event and will be subject to fines, probations, and suspensions.

8.      Any Driver or Crew Member who is injured or involved in an accident must submit to a check by the medical attendants.  Any Driver involved in a serious accident will not enter or re-enter a race until approval to do so is given by Officials and medical attendants.  Medical transportation from the racetrack to the hospital is the competitors’ responsibility.

9.      Drivers’ meeting is mandatory.  Driver must attend.  If the Driver cannot attend the Drivers’ meeting, he/she can have a substitute attend for him/her as long as he/she approves it with the Official in charge of the meeting – prior to the start of the meeting.

10.    Two-way radios are NOT allowed in the Bumblebee division.  There will be no communication of any kind between the Driver and Crew and/or audience member while on the racetrack (radio, walkie-talkie, cell phone, etc).

11.    Permission must be obtained from the Race Director or Technical Director before any practice and or safety laps, other than the designated practice time may be taken.  All Bumblebee cars MUST go through Tech prior to entering the racing surface at their first race of the season and are subject to random inspections by the Technical Inspectors.  All cars will run under the approval of the Technical Inspectors. 

12.    Any unauthorized persons entering onto the racing surface during race conditions will result in a disqualification, penalty, fine, or suspension, to the person and affiliated Driver.

13.    Any competitor or Crew Member, who has a pit band, partakes of any alcoholic beverage, stimulating, depressing, or tranquilizing drugs or is otherwise under the influence will result in disqualification and a minimum fine of $500.00 along with a suspension.

14.    Any competitor or Crew Member who participated in a fight in the pits, or on the race track, or on the premises, will result in a minimum of $500.00 fine, probation, suspension, and/or loss of points and positions in the event.  STAY IN YOUR OWN PITS!  ANY DRIVER OR CREWMEMBER THAT GOES INTO SOMEONE ELSE’S PITS, YELLING OR WITH ANY KIND OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!  YOUR CAR WILL BE LOADED AND YOU WILL NEED TO LEAVE THE RACE TRACK PREMISES.

15.    Any competing car, whose speed has been reduced to the point where it could cause a safety problem, may be removed from the racing surface at the option of the Officials.

16.    STARTING GRID:  The starting grid will be determined by a draw done by Shelly at the back gate.  The top three (3) finishers from the previous race will be inverted at the back of the main events.  The Championship race will be started on the current point standings.  All cars will be drawn on Championship night to determine starting positions for heat races.  Points will be awarded for heat races and main events. 

17.    The Promoter has the option to add an additional car as a Promoters choice.

18.    Trophy Dash:  If you qualify for the Trophy Dash – you MUST participate.  If you choose not to participate in the Trophy Dash, you will start in the back of your main event.  EXCEPTION:  If you have a problem, you must approve it with BOTH the Race Director and the Technical Director in order to be excused.

19.    Rookie of the Year:  If you are competing for Rookie of The Year, and you run more than five (5) races in your division and/or an upper division, in any year, you are not eligible to compete for Rookie of The Year in the future.  Example: You ran in the Super Stock series in 2007 and now you are going to compete in the Limited Late Model series in 2008.

20.    Any car continuously unable to start under its own power may be liable for a penalty or disqualification from the event or from the complete program.

21.    Any Driver or Crew that does not take their car to the line-up grid, when requested to by the Officials, may be required to start at the back of the line-up for that event.

22.    If a car is dead on the track, when racing is in progress, the Driver must stay in the car with seat belts fastened until the race is stopped, except in case of a fire or rollover.  Failure to comply may result in a penalty, disqualification, and/or suspension.

23.    No racecars will be allowed on the track until the track has been opened for official practice or racing.

24.    No person shall be permitted to ride on the outside of a racecar, tow vehicle or trailer at any time.

25.    No speeding in the pits.  You must use caution while driving in the pit area or you will be subject to a fine or suspension.  No donuts, burnouts, etc. allowed.  We need to keep the pits safe for Drivers and all others.

26.    ORIGINAL START:  You must take the Green Flag at the start of the main event in order to compete in that main event.  If you come out once the race has started, you will be black flagged and parked. 

27.    On the original start of any race, Drivers must stay double file and may not pass until you cross the start/finish line at the flag stand.  If you pass prior to this spot, you will receive a black flag.

28.    On any start of a race, if a car drops out, the line will move up.  Example:  If a car on the inside row, say the third place car, falls out of line and cannot start the race, then that row only will move ahead.  Same as if the sixth place car falls out, then only the outside row will move ahead.

29.    RE-START:  On a re-start, you must stay in line, single file, until the green flag is displayed.  At that time, you can only pass to the RIGHT until you cross the start/finish line.  If you fall out of line or pass to the left, you will receive the black flag. 

30.    GREEN FLAG:  On any start or re-start, you will always receive the green.  If the Race Director does not like the start, he will then throw the yellow, and re-start the race.  Drivers on the front row of any race, get two (2) chances on the original start.  If two (2) starts are waved off, they go to the back of the pack.

31.    On the original start, or re-start, you must maintain pace car speed once the pace car has left the racetrack and until the green flag is displayed.  Slowing down or speeding up will result in a black flag. 

32.    YELLOW FLAG:  When a yellow flag or yellow lights comes on, you will slow and maintain your position, you may not pass, failure to do so will result in being put to the back of the field.  Under each caution, yellow laps will NOT count.  No racing back to the yellow.  If you are unsure what position you are in, pull up beside the Driver in question and wait for the Officials to direct you to your proper restart position.  If you are involved in or cause a caution, you go to the rear of the field.  If you stop to avoid the wreck (caution) and were not involved in or caused the caution, you will get your position back.  Race Director’s discretion applies. 

33.    RED FLAG:  Cars must come to a complete, safe stop.  Drivers are not allowed to move their car off the track on a red flag.  Drivers may exit the track, only by permission of an Official or when the track goes to a yellow condition.  Failure to abide by this rule will result in a two (2)-lap penalty, fined, probation, disqualification, and/or suspension.  Repairs or service of any nature or refueling will NOT be permitted when the race is halted due to a red flag.  All work must stop on any car in the pits when the red flag is displayed during the race, unless the car has officially withdrawn from the event.  Work must not be resumed until the red flag is withdrawn.

34.    BLACK FLAG:  Drivers receiving a black flag will automatically be disqualified from the race.  Some of the most common things you can receive a black flag for are:  not honking horn at the flag stand; passing in the NO passing zone; going off the course; running over any cone; not following the configuration for the night; rough driving and unnecessary contact. 

35.    MIRROR DRIVING RULE:  Mirror driving or blocking will not be tolerated.  First time – Black flag warning, Second time – Parked for the night.

36.    Drivers are to notify the Technical Officials, Pit Stewards, or the Race Director, immediately of any changes in the starting grid.  Example: car broke; want to start in the back.

37.    POINTS:  If there is a tie in the point’s standings, all ties will be broken using the greatest number of firsts.  If a tie still exists, the number of seconds, thirds, etc will be used in the same manner, until the tie is broken.

 

1. CONSTRUCTION RULES:

1.         Any 4-cylinder car with a maximum wheelbase of 103” and a complete stock body, interior, frame and suspension.  Dash, complete steering assembly, and pedals must remain stock for make and model.  Rotary engines, turbo, and four-wheel drives are NOT allowed.

2.         All carpet, mats, insulation, and panel covers must be removed from interior, trunk, and engine compartment.

3.         The trunk must be able to be opened for inspection purposes.  Positive metal fasteners or pins must be used on the right and left sides of trunk. 

4.         Car horn, radio, and speakers must work in order to compete.  It is mandatory that a light be run on the roof of your car that lights up when the horn is used.

5.         Stock carburetor or fuel injection for make and model.

6.         No aftermarket and/or performance engine parts allowed.

7.         No lowering or alteration of stock factory ride height.  No altering of frame or suspension to gain suspension travel.  Example – notching and/or cutting.

8.         Stock, unaltered transmission and rear end for make and model. 

9.         Stock coil and leaf springs only.  NO aftermarket springs allowed.

10.       Stock shocks, in stock mounting location with stock mounting hardware.  NO aftermarket shocks allowed.

11.       No chaining allowed limiting suspension travel.

12.       No additional weight and or ballast weight is to be used at any time.

13.       All flammable material must be removed, along with chrome strips, door handles, ornaments, etc. 

14.       A one (1) gallon radiator overflow metal catch can or stock factory plastic tank must be installed on the right side of the firewall and attached to the radiator overflow.  Vent line from catch can or tank must exit on the lower right side of the windshield.

15.       Stock exhaust manifolds.  NO headers.  Exhaust system must remain in stock location securely fastened and must have a working muffler.  Maximum sound level is 95 decibels at 100 Feet.  Will be strictly enforced.

16.       One (1) battery allowed.  Must remain in stock location and securely fastened.

17.            TIRES:           Tires must be of stock type/size as per factory specs 70 series or higher, no re-caps allowed.  Each tire must have tread showing across the complete face of the tire. 

18.            WHEELS:            Wheels are to be stock type only as per factory specs for the car you are racing.

19.       All glass must be removed with the exception of the front windshield.  This includes headlights, taillights, etc.  Vacuum up all broken glass.  You must have two (2) 1’ x .125 straps outside windshield bolted to roof and cowl close to the centerline of windshield.  If screen is used, it must be heavy duty 3/8” or 1/2” mesh with minimum of three (3) 1/2” tubes in front of the driver, no further right than the centerline of the car.

20.       Two (2) upright bars are required using 1-3/4” x .095 minimum pipe with steel plates mounted vertical from the floorboards to roof with no less than four (4) 7/16” bolts and washers, 16 total minimum.  Each upright pipe is required to have 1-3/4” x .095 kicker tube from the top of the upright post down to floor at an angle, welded to the upright pipe and bolted or welded to the floor at frame.  The upright bars must be connected at the top and welded together by a connecting pipe.

21.            Driver’s door and Driver’s area must be padded for safety.

21.            Drivers door must be welded or chained closed with no less than 3” channel extending 4” past front and rear door seams.  A crossbar must attach directly to the door bar and extend across the interior of the car, from side to side, behind the drivers seat.  It is recommended to install a door bar on the passenger side also.

22.       OEM stock factory mirrors only.

23.       All bumpers must be stock type mounted in stock location.  The front and rear bumpers must have straps either welded or bolted flush to the front fenders and quarter panels.

24.       Car will have brakes in good working condition on all four corners of the car.  No aftermarket brakes.  Calipers must be stock OEM cast iron.  No aftermarket proportioning valves and/or brake bias adjusting devices of any kind will be allowed.  OEM master cylinder only.

25.       NO tire softener allowed of any kind.

26.       NO traction control.

 

6. SAFETY:

(A)          FUEL CELL:

1.         Stock gas tank mounted in front of the rear axle may remain in place.  All other stock gas tanks must be replaced with a steel boat tank or fuel cell, 8-gallon maximum.  NO plastic boat tanks allowed.  The fuel cell must be enclosed in a container of not less than 22 gauge steel.  Relocate new tank to forward most part of trunk.  Mount securely, no plumbers tape or rope.  The cell must be covered to prevent any splash.

2.         No exotic and/or fuel additives allowed.  Fuel will comply with ASTM D4814, Standard Specification for Automotive Spark Ignition Fuel.  No electric fuel pumps, no fuel cooling devices, no NOS, no Oxygen bearing agents, no Nitro, no HRB-11.

(B)          SEATS: 

Factory bucket seat allowed.  Custom manufactured, aluminum seat recommended.  Seat must be securely mounted.

(C)          BELTS: 

A quick release lap belt no less than 3" wide is required.  The lap belt may be bolted in the factory seat belt holes in the floor pan.  The shoulder harness must be fastened to the roll bar at shoulder height with Grade 8 bolts not less than 1/2" in diameter.  The shoulder harness and lap belts must be bolted so that the ends of the belts move freely.  Shoulder harness must be no less than 3" wide and must come from behind driver's seat.  Shoulder harness inertia reels cannot be used.  A center (crotch) or anti sub belt must be mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom.  Where the belt passes through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled and/or padded to prevent cutting.  All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle.  Seat belts must be dated by the manufacturer and must not be used beyond five (5) years after the manufacture date.  If a HANS device is being used, then the HANS style seat belts may be used.

(D)          HELMETS:

 It will be mandatory for ALL Drivers to wear a helmet carrying a valid, orange SA2000 or M2000 or newer, standard Snell sticker, at all times while on the racing surface.  Helmets must accompany the car at time of all inspections.  It is strongly recommended that all Drivers record blood type and RH factor, plus any major medical allergies to adhesive tape label to outside back of helmet.

(E)          CLOTHING: 

Drivers must wear an approved Nomex or Proban driving suit at all times when the car is on the track.  It is strongly recommended that the Driver's suit be at least two (2) layers thick.  Driving suits must effectively cover entire body.  It is strongly recommended that the Drivers wear Nomex underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire resistant material.

(F)          WINDOW NET: 

A nylon window screen is mandatory; the window screen must be a rib type, made from 3/4" wide nylon material with a maximum of 1" square opening between the ribs.  The minimum window screen size shall be 22" wide by 16" high.  It must release from top with a seat belt type latch, and it must be securely fastened on the bottom. 

(G)    FIRE EXTINGUISHER: 

It is mandatory to have a Dry charged 2-1/2 lb. minimum, with quick release fire extinguisher.  This fire extinguisher must be securely mounted to the frame and/or roll cage structure and must not use hose clamps, worm drive clamps, duct tape, or cable ties.  It may NOT be taped to the roll cage.  Must be fully charged.  The gauge must be easily visible for the Technical Official to read.  Recommended on-board fire extinguisher system. 

It is mandatory that all entrants have in their pits, at all times, a fully charged 10 lb. Class B fire extinguisher, showing current inspection certificate and a visible operating pressure gauge.

 

7. GENERAL RULES:

(A)       An ON/OFF ignition switch will be installed within reach of the driver when belted in the car.  The on/off switch will be clearly marked.  

(B)       There will be several different configurations to run that will be determined by the Race Director prior to each race event.

(C)       You must follow the course even if the cone has moved.

(D)       When in the no passing zone, you cannot pass in that zone, even if you are the leader.

(E)       Horn and light mandatory at the flag stand every time.  WHENEVER A BUMBLEBEE CAR PASSES THE FLAG STAND – START/FINISH LINE, THEY MUST HONK THEIR HORN AND LIGHT MUST COME ON.

(F)       NON-CONTACT RACE.

(B)       No onboard computer, record keeping devices, or wiring permitted.

(C)       No traction control devices of any kind allowed.

(D)       Bumblebee cars must be registered by South Sound Speedway and will be assigned a number.  Call SHELLY CHASE AT 360-753-1692 for number.  Last years numbers will be reserved until the January registration meeting, at which time the numbers will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.  Numbers are to be displayed on the car as follows: A minimum 20" high by 3" wide number is required on both door areas.  A Minimum 30" high by 3" wide number is required on the roof of the car readable from the right side of the car.  All cars must have a 5” number on the top right hand corner of the windshield and/or right head light cover.  All numbers must be legible with paint schemes approved by South Sound Speedway.  Sponsors names and lettering must not interfere with the car numbers.  No Metallic or reflective numbers are allowed.  They must be able to be seen at night across the track.  South Sound Speedway retains the right to approve commercial or editorial messages on competing cars.  Suggestive or rude remarks are not permitted on cars.

(E)            Rainout Policy:  NO CASH REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN.  If ANY car takes the track for practice, there will be only a half rain check given.  Full rain check only if cars have not taken the track.

(F)       ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO INTERPRETATION OF THE TRACK OFFICIALS, ANY EQUIPMENT THAT THE OFFICIALS CONSIDER EXOTIC OR NOT IN THE INTENT OF THE RULES WILL BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL FOR COMPETITION.  IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS, THE RULES MAY BE ADJUSTED TO CREATE A BALANCE IN COMPETITION OR FOR SAFETY REASONS.

 

8. CAR CLAIMS:

(A)       The claim for a Bumblebee car will be $450.00 CASH or MONEY ORDER for point’s holders in the Bumblebee division.  $325.00 of the claim money will go to the car owner, $25.00 for administrative fees, and $100.00 will be refunded to the purchaser if they race it at the next scheduled Bumblebee race.  If the car is not brought back at that race, the $100.00 will be given to the previous owner. 

(B)       The claim is $750.00 for a non-points holder.  The car must be raced by the claimer, the next four (4) consecutive Bumblebee races to get $300.00 back, or the $300.00 goes to the previous owner. 

(C)       The claim period will begin after the completion of the final Bumblebee heat race and last 20 minutes.

(D)       Cash or a money order in and envelope in an envelope with the car number, claimee’s name, address, and phone number must be presented to the Race Director in the tower.  When a claimed car returns to be run the following week, the person whose name was on the claim envelope must drive it.  If it is driven by anyone else, the money will be held until the end of the year and distributed among the top 10 in point’s finishers. 

(E)       It is MANDATORY for all Bumblebee drivers to attend a 10-minute claim period at the tech stand after the completion of the Bumblebee main event.  The claim period will be used to inform drivers if their cars have been claimed.  If a driver’s car is claimed, they will have the opportunity to claim another person’s car within the 10-minute claim period.  If a point’s holder in the Bumblebee division claims a car, it will be eligible for claim the next race.  When someone other than a point’s holder in the Bumblebee division claims a car, the driver will be able to complete three (3) races before it is eligible to be claimed again.  When a driver has driven three (3) races, the car he or she is driving is eligible for claim.

(F)       This class is an open claim.  Any person may claim any care in the class after the car has been ran three (3) times.  If a driver refuses a claim, he/she will receive a one (1) full year suspension from any Bumblebee event at South Sound Speedway.

(G)       Belts, racing seats, fuel cells, and fire extinguishers remain the property of the former owner.  The former owner also has the option to keep the horn and any special lights that have been installed.

 

8. NOTES AND AMENDMENTS:

CONSTRUCTION:

TIRES:  The tire series and size MUST be clearly marked with white paint or chalk AT ALL TIMES for inspection.  AMENDED: 3-9-2007

CONSTRUCTION:

The hood must be able to be opened for inspection purposes.  A minimum of two (2) positive metal fasteners or pins must be used on the right and left sides of the hood.  AMENDED: 3-20-2007

SAFETY:

F:  WINDOW NET CONSTRUCTION:  The window screen must be a rib type, made from 1" wide nylon material with a maximum of 1-3/4" square opening between the ribs.                 AMENDED: 3-27-2007

RUNNING AND DRIVING RULES:

The top four (4) cars and drivers from each main event must come straight to the Technical area after their main event or immediately after their trophy presentation.  Failure to do so is an automatic disqualification for that race. 

The fourth place car must pull up to the technical area; exit the car, put up the window net and leave the car alone.  You may take stagger and air pressures only.  Any removal of hood or deck lid, etc, without the Technical Director’s approval, will be an automatic disqualification.  AMENDED: 6-21-2007

RUNNING AND DRIVING RULES:

BLACK FLAG.  Drivers will receive a maximum of three (3) Black Flag stop and go penalties before being disqualified for not honking horn at flag stand; passing in the NO passing zone; going off the course; running over any cone; or not following the configuration for the night. 

Drivers receiving a Black flag for rough driving and unnecessary contact will automatically be disqualified from the race.  AMENDED: 7-7-2007

Any unauthorized persons entering onto the racing surface during race conditions will result in fines, probations, suspensions, and the Driver disqualified.  This includes red flag conditions.  AMENDED 1-4-2008.

Trophy Dash:  If you qualify for the Trophy Dash – you MUST participate.  If you are in the first Trophy Dash of the evening, you MUST be lined up and ready to run your dash at the beginning of the Opening Ceremonies.  If you are not ready, you will start in the back of your Main Event.  If you choose not to participate in the Trophy Dash, you will start in the back of your main event.  EXCEPTION:  If you have a problem, you must approve it with BOTH the Race Director and the Technical Director in order to be excused.  AMENDED 1-4-2008.

RUNNING AND DRIVING RULES:

Driver and Crew Members will be subject to fines, probations, suspensions and the Driver disqualified for violation of rules by Crew Members.  AMENDED 1-4-2008.

SAFETY:

WINDOW NET:  Window net must be dated by the manufacturer, must meet SFI specifications, and must not be used beyond five (5) years after the manufacture date.  AMENDED 1-4-2008.

CONSTRUCTION RULES:

TIRES:            Tires must be of stock type/size as per factory specs 60 series or higher, no re-caps allowed.  Each tire must have tread showing across the complete face of the tire.  AMENDED 1-4-2008.

If a Driver has not competed in a regular season points event at South Sound Speedway and wants to compete in the season ending, Championship race, the Driver must be approved by the Race Director in order to race and will not receive any points for that event.  Race Director’s discretion applies.  AMENDED 1-25-2008.

If a Car has not competed in a regular season points event at South Sound Speedway and a Driver wants to use it to compete in the season ending, Championship race, the Car must be approved by the Technical Director in order to race.  Technical Director’s discretion applies.  AMENDED 1-25-2008.

RUNNING & DRIVING RULES:

16.             STARTING GRID:  The first race of the year starting positions will be determined on a first come, first served basis through Tech.  The Championship Main Event will line up according to points at the beginning of the race day with the points leader on the pole.  The Dash will be drawn each week.  After the first points race, the line up for the Heat race(s) will be based on the points system, inverted.  If there are two (2) Heat races, the points leader will start at the back of the first Heat and second in points will start at the back of the second Heat race, and so on.  The Main Events, after the first point’s race, will start by inverted points also.  Anyone new will start behind the cars holding points.  A tie in points will be given to the driver with the most wins, and then second place finishes, then third place finishes and so on until the tie is broken.  In the event the tie can not be decided by this format, then the younger of the driver’s will start in the forward position.  Points will be awarded for heat races and main events.  AMENDED 3-25-2008.

CONSTRUCTION RULES:

18 WHEELS:  Wheels are to be stock type only as per the factory.  Stock factory aluminum or stock factory steel wheels allowed.  Maximum 6” width on all wheels.  NO alterations to the wheels allowed.  NO racing wheels or home made wheels allowed.  Technical Director’s discretion applies.  AMENDED 3-25-2008.

RUNNING AND DRIVING RULES:

9.  Drivers’ meeting is mandatory.  Driver must attend.  If the Driver cannot attend the Drivers’ meeting, he/she can have a substitute attend for him/her as long as he/she approves it with the Official in charge of the meeting – prior to the start of the meeting.  If you are late, or miss the Drivers meeting, you will receive one (1) lap of qualifying, start in the back of your Heat race and your main event.  AMENDED 5-17-2008.

PROTEST, APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS:

1.   All manner in which protests and appeals must be made in the Bumblebee Division, shall be governed by the 2007/2008 rulebook.

2.   Any complaints, disputes, questions, or problems must be directed, by the Driver or the registered Car Owner to the Race Director.

3.   Protests, as to an official decision, must be submitted in writing, by the Driver or registered Car Owner to the Race Director within 20 minutes of the official decision being levied.  Only a Driver or registered Car Owner in the same class may submit a protest.

4.         If a South Sound member who is a competitor believes that another competitor has or will obtain a significant unfair advantage by some action that the member believes is in violation of the rules, the member may protest such action to a South Sound Speedway Official.  The protest must be made in writing by the competitor (or his or her Car Owner) within twenty minutes after the checkered flag is displayed signifying the completion of the race.  For a protest involving the chassis or chassis parts, the protest must be accompanied by a $75.00 protest fee.  For a protest involving the engine, the protest must be accompanied by a $150.00 protest fee.  The Race Director shall decide whether the matter is protest able, and if so shall decide the protest as promptly as possible, and shall inform the parties to the protest of the decision A decision that the matter is not protest able is final and non-appeal able.  In deciding the protest, South Sound Speedway Officials may take whatever action deemed appropriate to further the interests of fairness and finality in competition results.  Such action includes, but is not limited to, revising the official race results, imposing penalties (disqualification's, suspension, fines, and/or loss of finishing position(s) in the event), awarding or subtracting of points, or taking no action.  Their decision is final.  If the protest is allowed, the money will be reimbursed to the person protesting.  If the protest is disallowed, the money will go to the person being protested, less $25.00 for chassis or $50.00 for the engine, for administrative fees.  AMENDED 6-3-2008.
