By Kristy Runyon

August 5, 2006… Limited Late Model point leader, Phil Willis, clocked in fastest for the group with a 13.975.  Dan Walker and John Boyatt started on the front row of the main event.  JD Barnum and Tim McDougald had troubles early on.  Barnum left after taking the green flag and McDougald went off and came back on before the green flew.  Before a lap could be complete Steve Woods and Mark Jones got together causing major damage to both their cars.  When the race finally went green, Dan Walker took the early lead until Kevin Carver took over on lap five.  Walker held on to second until lap 10 when Phil Willis took over.  Mark Jones came back on the track on lap five with some body parts missing but stayed on the pace.

Devin Eierman

The first caution came on lap 27 when Bob Hays spun and lost a lap.  The next caution came out on lap 40 when Pat Clark’s car slowed way down.  Clark exited the track safely and the race got back underway.  Dan Walker exited the track on the caution after all the counted cautions were through.  He came back out after the race got started, losing only one lap.  Walker went down another lap on lap 46.  Kevin Carver and Phil Willis were battling back and forth for the top spot.  The two got together on lap 56, spinning them both.  Carver was done for the night and Willis lost a lap for the incident.  Dan Walker regained one of his laps when the leaders spun.

Phil Willis

John Boyatt was now out front with Dave McCaslin in second and Jim Jussila in third.  Dave McCaslin took over the lead on lap 64 when Boyatt’s car slowed and he exited the track.  Lap 68 brought the end to McCaslin’s reign when he blew, spewing fluid all over the track.  Jim Jussila was now out front with Phil Willis, a lap down, right behind him.  Devin Eierman was second and Tom Smitham was third.  On lap 78 Willis got around Jussila to regain the lap he lost due to the black flag.  Willis was working his way back up the track and was in fourth spot as the race entered the last ten laps.  Tom Smitham spun on lap 97 bringing out the caution and losing him third spot.  Jim Jussila won the 100 lap main event and the coveted $1,000.00 prize.  Devin Eierman finished up second with Phil Willis moving up and taking third spot.  Tom Smitham was fourth with Dan Walker in fifth.  Bob Hays, Bobby Moore, John Boyatt, Marshall Hallett and Mark Jones rounded out the top ten.
