Jim Landon Wins the Legends Regional Qualifier

Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday August 11, 2012, was full of excitement with five classes on hand, HiLine Homes Legends Regional Qualifier, D&S Light Truck and Auto Mini Stocks, Hinkle Homes Hobby Stocks, FSCRA and Vintage Modified.

 

Legend Regional Qualifier Main event started with Don Gist on the pole and Jeremy Sabin on the outside. Gist takes the lead on lap 1. Jesse Branham takes the lead on lap 6. On lap 10, turn 4, Parker Stephens and Randy Beddow get together. Stephens exits the track with a flat tire. On lap 11, Duane Swanson takes the lead. On lap 14, turn 2, Brian Boyd spins. On lap 16, Jim Landon takes the lead. On the same lap, Branham’s oil line breaks and he exits the track. On lap 16, turns 1 and 2, caution comes out when Landon and Gist spin, they both retain their spots due to the oil on the track.  Landon goes on to win the 40 lap Legend Regional Qualifier Main Event, followed by Swanson, Randy Schaaf, Eric Shover (who later got Disqualified), and Brent Mack to round out the top five. 

 

Mini Stock Main event started with Kyle Matthews on the pole and Jim Belter on the outside. Devin Matthews takes the lead on lap 1. Kevin Conway exits the track on lap 1. On lap 14, turn 1, Bill Hayes and Dwayne DeYoung spin, both drivers sent to the back of the pack. On lap 17, Dennis Shaffer takes the lead and goes on to win the 40 lap Mini Stock Main Event, followed by Scott Maynard, John Morse, Tina McMillan and Grant Charneski to round out the top 5.

 

Hobby Stock Main event started with Richard Woolverton on the pole and Bryson Baird on the outside. Baird takes the lead on lap 1. Don Briggs Jr., takes the lead on lap 7. Chris Branon and Joe Swanson exit the track on lap 16. Briggs Jr. goes on to win the 25 lap Hobby Stock Main Event, followed by Dan Walker, Todd Pederson, Baird, and Woolverton to round out the top 5.

 

FSCRA Main event started with Robert Quarterman on the pole and Seth Cooper on the outside. Cooper takes the lead on lap 1. Scott Beaudoin takes the lead on lap 2. Chuck Pittman exits the track on lap 8. Dawson Loehner takes the lead on lap 11. On lap 12, turn 4, Scot Graf spins. On the restart, on the back stretch, Kayla Pittman spins. On the second restart, turns 1 and 2, Beaudoin spins due to John Grosvenor missing a shift. Wayne Dillon takes the lead on lap 16. On lap 22, turns 1 and 2, Beaudoin spins again. Cooper exits the track on lap 24. Dillon goes on to win the FSCRA 30 lap Main Event, followed by Loehner, Grosvenor, Graf, and Beaudoin to round out the top 5.

 

Vintage Modified had three generation of drivers on hand,  Chuck Petersen, Jeff Petersen, and KC Petersen (Home from the Marines). Their Main event started with Chuck Petersen on the pole and Bobby Wheeler on the outside. Chuck Petersen takes the lead on lap 1. KC Petersen exits the track on lap 7 after getting a mechanical flag. Robert Rux takes the lead on lap 10. On lap 13, turn 3, Bob Fulmer slows and exits the track. Todd McCartney gets a mechanical flag on lap 17 and exits the track. On lap 18, turn 2, Chuck Petersen spins with the help of Wheeler. On lap 23, turn 1, McCartney spins. On lap 25, Wheeler takes the lead and goes on to win the 30 lap Vintage Modified Main Event, followed by Rux, Jeff Petersen, Chuck Petersen, and Mike (Wheelman) Moun to round out the top 5.
