Steve Woods Wins West Coast Street Stock Main Event

Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday July 28th, was full of excitement with five classes on hand, West Coast Street Stocks, HiLine Home Legends, NW Baby Grands, Outlaw Compacts, and Olympic Trailer and Truck Accessories Bump to Pass.

 

West Coast Street Stock Main event started with Anthony Barbera on the pole and Kelly Helewell on the outside. Barbera takes the lead on lap 1. The first Caution of the Race comes on lap 1, when Helewell spins Richard Kerr, and Jimmy Allen spins trying to avoid the other cars. Helewell exits the track, Richard Kerr and Allen to the back of the pack. On Lap 6, Caution comes out for a car stopped on pit row blocking the exit. On lap 22, turn 1, Richard Kerr and Brian Cottrell spin, both drivers sent to the back of the pack. Barbera exits the track after fire under his hood is extinguished. On lap 23, Steve Woods takes the lead. On lap 33, turn 2, Bill Rutherford spins Dan Walker. Rutherford gets a stop and go penalty. Richard Kerr gets a mechanical flag for leaking gear oil. On lap 58, turn 4, Todd Connell and Robert Mears spin after getting lapped by the leaders. On lap 62, Zack Beaman gets a mechanical flag. Woods goes on to win the 75 lap West Coast Street Stock Main Event, followed by Andy Stabil, Ron Stewart, Kim Wennerberg, and Allen to round out the top 5.

 

Outlaw Compact Main event started with Jim Perry on the pole and Eric Angeledes on the outside. Perry takes the lead on lap 1.On lap 3, Drew Harthorn takes the lead. On lap 8, Chad Benjamin takes the lead. On lap 10, Harthorn retakes the lead. On lap 11, Benjamin retakes the lead. On lap 11, Harthorn blows a tire and hits the wall. Benjamin goes on to win the 30 lap Outlaw Compact Main Event, followed by Gary Hanawalt, Angeledes, Scott Burby, and Jim Cutrell to round out the top 5.

 

Legend Main event started with Kohlton Steinke on the pole and Randy Beddow on the outside. Simon Buchan takes the lead on lap 1. On lap 7, Duane Swanson takes the lead. On Lap15, Randy Schaaf takes the lead. On lap 17, turn 4, Parker Stephens spins. On lap 23, turn 2, Stephens spins again. Schaaf goes on to win the 25 lap Legend Main Event, followed by Jim Landon, Swanson, Eric Shover and Buchan to round out the top 5.

 

Baby Grand Main event started with Brad McCutcheon on the pole and Mark Maynard Jr. on the outside. McCutcheon takes the lead on lap 1. Bryan Crawford takes the lead on lap 2. On lap 2, turn 3 and 4, Brad Crawford spins Bryan Crawford. Jim Guinn gets hit in the back while the Crawford cars and Mark Maynard Jr. were spinning. Maynard Jr. and Brad Crawford exit the track. Crawford had a flat tire and returns before going back green. Guinn gets mechanical flag for leaking gas. McCutcheon retakes the lead on lap 3. On lap 6, Brad Crawford takes the lead and goes on to win the 20 lap Baby Grand Main Event, followed by Bryan Crawford, Brad McCutcheon, Mark Maynard Jr., and Jim Guinn to round out the top 5.

 

Bump to Pass Main event started with Jake Mills on the pole and Zack Floreck on the outside. Mills takes the lead on lap 1. Devin Rothmeyer bumps Floreck and Floreck spins. On lap 4, Floreck bumps Mills and Floreck takes the lead on lap 5. On lap 6, Mills bumps Floreck. On lap 13, Mills bumps Floreck and takes over the lead. On lap 17, Mills bumps Floreck and takes over the lead. On lap 18, Mills bumps Floreck, both cars go spinning and Floreck takes over the lead on lap 19. Floreck goes on to win the 20 lap Bump to Pass Main Event, followed by Mills and Rothmeyer.
